AA International has developed methodologies (Pictorial Evaluation Tools or PETs) that improve the quality and speed of assessments of crop and forage yields and livestock body condition.
PETs were first developed as hard-copy manuals of annotated photo-indicators for rapid appraisal, prepared for and used in the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation's (FAO's) Crop and Food Security Assessments.
PET Crop manuals have been produced for five different countries within East and the Horn of Africa (plus a PET Crops manual for the West Bank and Gaza Strip), with more recent versions covering an extensive range of crops.
PET Livestock manuals have been produced for four different countries in East and the Horn of Africa and include camels, cattle, goats and sheep.
PET Forage assessment methodologies have been incorporated into three of the PET Livestock manuals.
PET has been developed into a mobile App - the PET App - suitable for use on Android devices, which allows the datasets from Crop, Livestock and Forage assessments to be sent to a server for analysis. If you would like more information on the PET App and how it can be accessed please contact us.
Training - AgriTechTalk, in conjunction with it's sister organisation AAI, can provide in-country training in PET methodology to field assessors, be they agency, government or NGO staff. This includes training on PET Crops and PET Livestock methodologies, incorporating both the theory behind PET, as well as practical field training - using the PET manuals or app, as required by the client.
